The Current Edit- May

Hitting pause. Being home. Living in the present. Featuring The Current Edit: everything I’m loving and obsessing over lately.

What I’ve been reading

I wish I could say that while staying at home, I read more. This month, I couldn’t put down The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. A heartfelt story of a brother and sister over the course of their lives, revolving around the enchanting Dutch House.

What I’ve been cooking

Mornings in my house have been a lot brighter with Kodiak Cakes. I love that their products are whole-grain and protein packed. You can’t go wrong with any of their products, but I’m add their Muffin Mix to the top of my favorite list.

Back in September 2019, I made the decision to focus on eating more Whole Food Plant Based. This was a personal decision I made based on health conditions. We’ve been exploring with plant based meats and desserts lately. Here’s what’s been on the menu for this month:

Veggie burger

Veggie Curry Ramen

Beyond Meat tacos

No-Bake Chocolate Almond Vegan Cheesecake

What I’ve been listening to

My At Home Spotify Playlist, made up of easy listening and modern tunes. Weekend mornings are all about slowly rolling out of bed, playing music, and getting the coffee started.

Stuff You Should Know Podcast presented by iHeartRadio. I get into nerdy moods and I love geeking out to the random topics this playlist covers. With ranging topics such as Macadamia Nuts, the ins and outs of beekeeping, the history of PEZ, and how the Scientific Method works, this podcast covers things that you’ve either always wondered about or never even thought of. Which is purely why I love it.

What I’ve been watching

Little Fires Everywhere – Hulu. Adding the book to my cart now! While watching, I thought I had the storyline all figured out… I certainly did not. If you’re looking for a good drama series, I recommend this one.

Jack Ryan – Hulu. I’m a little late on the series, but I recently finished season one and wow. An engaging series I shamelessly binged. This is different from my reality tv shows and enjoyed finding a series with deeper storylines.

Katy Keene – The C.W. Fashion & friendship, what else could you want from a light-hearted show? Besides Lucy Hale being the main character and all of her adorableness, this is the perfect show for someone who loves fashion, laughs, and a dreamy set.

What daily practices I swear by

During this time of being home I’ve been able to focus on a lot of goals that I swore I’d get around to “one of these days” when I find the time. Well, we’ve had nothing but time due to current circumstances so I had no excuse.

New skincare finds: Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm by Farmacy Beauty & Ice Roller for Face. I love using the Ice Roller in the mornings to reduce any puffiness…plus the coldness wakes me up when I’m feeling still feeling sleeping first thing in the am.

I’ve also been using my GloPro Microneedling tool in the pm about 3-4 times per week and I’ve loving the results. My blackheads on my nose have cleared up and my skin has a nice highlight glow!

Daily check-ins: Every day I’ve been practicing getting up from my seated position every 30 minutes to 1 hour and walk around or stretch for 5 to 10 minutes. I used to spend several hours staring at my laptop during workdays without getting up…yikes. Not only do I feel better about taking care of my health this way, but in doing so I’ve shed a few pounds. No complaints!
